Safety, buying, wallets and selling, explained plainly.
Look the token up by its contract address, not its name. Then confirm that mint authority and freeze authority are revoked, that a few wallets do not hold most of the supply, that there is real liquidity in a trading pool, and that the token has no extension that can block or tax selling. No check proves a coin is safe, but these catch the most common traps.
Most Solana meme coins are bought on decentralized exchanges, not big exchange apps. You need a Solana wallet such as Phantom, Solflare or Backpack, some SOL to swap with and pay fees, and a swap on a decentralized exchange or aggregator such as Jupiter or Raydium, or the swap built into your wallet. Always paste the official contract address instead of searching by name.
First confirm the token is not an obvious trap: mint and freeze authority revoked, supply not concentrated in a few wallets, and real liquidity. Then look at whether people actually trade and talk about it, whether the project is open about who runs it and what it is building, and whether it avoids promises of guaranteed returns. Only buy an amount you can afford to lose completely.
Buying a normal token through a legitimate swap cannot empty your wallet. The swap only trades the SOL you choose for the token. Wallets get drained when someone signs a malicious transaction on a fake website, shares their seed phrase, interacts with unsolicited airdropped tokens, or sends funds to a look-alike address. The worst a bad token itself can usually do is become hard or impossible to sell.
Most meme coins trade against a liquidity pool, a shared pot of the token and SOL. When you sell, you put tokens into the pool and take SOL out, and the price moves depending on how big your sale is compared to the pool. Small pools mean bigger price drops when you sell. Keep some SOL for fees, set a sensible slippage limit, and sell large positions in parts.
